Description | This collection contains early and important correspondence and other papers of the Graham family of Queniborough, Leicestershire. The earliest documents are financial papers of the late seventeenth century relating to the Foulis family. The author of the diary and account book [DE 4395/1], Colonel Graham, married the daughter of Sir James Foulis and settled (according to family tradition) in Queniborough.
The correspondence that follows concerns the children of Colonel William Graham. The letters seem to have been collected by his daughter Anna, a spinster, who acted as a 'clearing house' of family news and unofficial guardian with Robert Graham of her sister Isabella's children. The other children were James, a naval officer; Agnes, wife of Mr. Shepherd, Isabella who married Dr. George Gray of the East India Company and had two children, George and Isabella ['Bella]. Isabella [senior] died young and Dr. Gray remarried. The other children were David, another servant of the East India Company who died young in the East, and William, who inherited the family property at Queniborough. |
