TitleRECORDS OF EN-TOUT-CAS CO. LTD., MANUFACTURERS OF HARD LAWN TENNIS COURTS AND SPORTS SURFACES, SYSTON
DescriptionClaude Arthur Brown manager of the Thurmaston Brick Co. built his first hard lawn tennis court with crushed brick for Captain Hillyard at Thorpe Satchville in 1909. The courts proved successful and resulted in the establishment of a private company En-Tout-Cas Co. Ltd. in 1912. It became a public company in 1927. En-Tout-Cas was chosen as the name to emphasize the all weather capabilities of their tennis courts.

Although famous for their tennis courts the company also manufactured athletics tracks which were used for the 1948 and 1956 Olympics, indoor and outdoor sports surfaces, bowling greens, cricket pitches, squash courts, swimming pools and sports equipment. The company also had Woodwork and Nursery divisions. Prior to WW2 the company was active in airfield construction and for the war effort was also involved in constructing prefabricated buildings, providing camouflage, reconditioning armoured scout cars and opencast mining.

In 1969 En-Tout-Cas became a subsidiary of Crest Homes and was acquired by various companies in the early 1990's. By 1998 the company was in liquidation.
